Within the arts, we have chosen to integrate a couple activities in which children can have fun doing when discovering and observing the life cycle process of the butterfly. Children should have the opportunity to demonstrate an awareness of themselves as an artist through engaging activities involving visual arts (p. 151).

Art Activity 1:
While the children have a daily view of the butterfly life style taking place within their classroom, children are encouraged to record what they see. Each day children should be given the opportunity to draw out what they see as well as write down what they see happening. And relate the changes that occur on a daily bases. 'yesterday i saw...Today i see...Tomorrow i might see..'

This is one of many examples of a child's drawing during the butterfly life cycle. As the picture shows, the child has labelled each step that they have seen happen throughout the life cycle of a butterfly as it clearly indicates which step of the life cycle was occurring at the time. This child is showing their understanding of the birth and process of growth that a butterfly goes through within their lifetime.

Art Activity 2:
Children can be given the opportunity to make their own butterfly out of a variety of ample materials provided for them around the classroom. One example of this activity is as follows:
